Fabulous stuff made by Mum and Dad...

My Mum and Dad are enormously creative and talented.  They have made heaps and heaps of beautiful things...a visit to their house reveals one lovely work after another.  I took some pictures of just a few during our last visit...
a sofa table made by Dad, using wood he milled himself from a fallen tree on their property
a pile of colourful socks, knitted by Mum

A banksia seed-pod vase, drilled by Dad

A pair of colourful "leftover" socks, knitted by Mum
Candlesticks, made by Dad from materials scavenged from the tip...

A pair of intricately patterned socks, knitted by Mum

I am so lucky to have such amazing parents.  Thank you Mum and Dad for your never-ending inspiration!

  1. Wow, your Dad is just as talented & creative as your Mom! Thanks for sharing their creations with us. So, your talents must be a combination of nature & nurture!

  2. Holy cow, I love those last socks! If only I knew how to knit, I would ask for the pattern!
I love visiting the homes of creative people because it's like a treasure hunt for unique objects. (I took 4H arts & crafts lessons from a rural artist back in the '80s who had a wonderful handmade house - and I mean everything inside and out. So inspiring.)

  7. I just recently found your blog through BurdaStyle and I am in awe of you completely. At least knowing you came from a crafty family give me hope for my own children. Kudos to you and your mom and dad.

  10. Carolyn, our Dad's really need to get together! My Dad is constantly salvaging timber and useful bits and pieces and is spending his retirement making beautiful furniture, picture frames for my mothers cross stitch and many other things that take his fancy. Nothing goes to waste and if we are ever in need of just the right piece to finish a job, likelyhood is Dad will have it or know how to repair it!

  15. Hi Carolyn, I am Kaye from Adelaide and have enjoyed reading yuo blog for a while now. On July 26 2011 you posted about how creative your parents are and one of the items was a pair of socks that looked like they had been made with mitre knitting. I am wondering if you could tell me where I can get the pattern from as I have not been able to find it on the net. I enjoy mitre knitting and knitting socks so it is a nice combination of both ( but I dont like mitre knitting in cardigans or jumpers and dont wear knitted scarves).
    Regards Kaye
